Electrical Construction and Management Ltd (ECM), part of the Paladin Group, has received certification from the National Apprenticeship Training Board of Papua New Guinea paving the way for the commencement of its new apprenticeship program.

Based in Port Moresby, the electrical apprenticeship program will run for a four-year period and see ECM provide practical on-the-job training and on-going support. During the program, apprentices will have a diverse experience, developing new skills while working across a range of different ECM projects.
Jermain Aisa, 31 from North Solomon, Bogainville and Kenneth Niko, Miline Bay will form ECM’s first cohort of apprentices.

The program, which will expand next year with a further intake of apprentices, will help upskill the local PNG labour force and address the shortage of technical skills which currently results in many expatriate staff filling these positions.

ECM General Manager Alistair Houlihan commented “We are delighted to announce the launch of our new electrical apprenticeship program through which we will train and provide job opportunities to young people here in PNG. We are committed to increasing our local staff numbers and the apprenticeship program is an important step in this direction. We wish Jermain and Kenneth the very best as they commence their four-year apprenticeship at ECM.”

The apprenticeship program is a part of the Paladin philosophy and commitment to build, operate and transfer skills and knowledge to the communities in which it operates to ensure that it leaves a positive enduring legacy. ECM and the Paladin Group are proud to be fulfilling this promise and offering apprenticeship opportunities to the PNG community.
